"in-depth legal knowledge and exceptional negotiation skills to the table, consistently exceeding client expectations and achieving successful outcomes in complex cases"
Valentino R.L. Guzman is a co-founding partner of Guzman Acain LLP and one of the firm’s principal litigators, with more than 31 years of active practice across civil and criminal courts in the Philippines.
Val built his practice on the fundamentals of Philippine litigation — appearing before the Metropolitan Trial Courts, Regional Trial Courts, Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court across a wide range of matters. His litigation instincts and courtroom experience form the foundation of the firm’s trial practice.
Practice Areas
Val’s practice covers commercial law, criminal law and defense, family law and annulments, real estate, administrative law, anti-graft proceedings, and labor and employment. He has represented individuals, corporations, and government-linked entities across these areas for over three decades.
Anti-Graft & Administrative Practice
Val has represented clients in proceedings before the Office of the Ombudsman and the Sandiganbayan under the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act (RA 3019) — one of the most technically demanding areas of Philippine public law, involving complex questions of evidentiary standards and criminal liability for public officials and private individuals alike.
Real Estate
Beyond his legal practice, Val is a licensed real estate broker — giving the firm a practical, transactional understanding of Philippine property matters that complements its legal advisory work. He has advised on property acquisitions, development projects, and commercial real estate transactions across the Philippines.
Public Service
Val holds the rank of Commander in the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA), a promotion signed by PCG Commandant Admiral Joel Garcia on May 29, 2020, in recognition of his commitment to maritime safety and public service. He is a dedicated Rotarian and served as President of the Rotary Club of Cavite East.
Notable Appearances
In March 2022, Val appeared alongside co-founding partner Alexander Acain Jr. before the Philippine Senate Committee on Public Order in a virtual hearing — representing the firm’s active engagement in legislative and regulatory proceedings at the national level.
